Welcome .......... Saruni Saning’o

Proclamation .......... Psalm 66:1-7 .......... Congregation

1 Shout for joy to God, all the earth!
2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious.
3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.
4 All the earth bows down to you;
they sing praise to you, they sing the praises of your name.”

5 Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!
6 He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot—
come, let us rejoice in him.
7 He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations—
let not the rebellious rise up against him.

Prayer .......... Saruni Saning’o

Scripture Reading .......... Hebrews 3 .......... Saruni Saning’o

1 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
7 So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 That is why I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”

12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said:
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Sermon .......... Consider Jesus .......... Mrs. Christine Chan

Our Response .......... You are my All in All .......... Congregation

You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all

Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord to give up I'd be a fool
You are my all in all

Taking my sin my cross my shame
Rising again I bless your name
You are my all in all

When I fall down you pick me up
When I am dry You fill my cup
You are my all in all

So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. Hebrews 3:7-9

These chapters in the book of Hebrews continue to show the superiority of Jesus by comparing Jesus with Moses. The author again quotes the book of Psalms. This time it is the 2nd half of Psalm 95 that starts as a call to worship. While giving us reasons to worship God, it then turns into a strict warning, based on the historical experience of Israel, when Moses was the leader of the Israelites.

Even though Moses was a faithful servant of God, he was unable to direct the rebellious hearts of the people. They distrusted God’s guidance and therefore had to wander around in the wilderness for forty years. A whole generation of people died without entering the promised land. This now has become a warning for future generation. In the time the Psalms were written, God’s people were called not to harden their hearts. Now in the book of Hebrew these verses are quoted with the same warning for followers of Jesus Christ. Today when we read this passage, let it also speak to our hearts and urge us to test our hearts. Let us not harden our hearts and in our walk with Jesus remember God has the best for us in store. Today is the day to repent and believe the Good News, for the Kingdom of God is near.

Even Moses himself was not allowed to enter the promised land, let us therefore heed this warning to check our hearts and truly hear the voice of our Lord Jesus!

Psalm 62:5-8
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

Psalm 62 starts with a similar proclamation as the verses just quoted:
1-2 Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

Sometimes we need to put effort in truly live in the conviction that we find rest in God, we have to exercise our faith and remind ourselves of the truth. By repeating and addressing “my soul” one is reminding oneself how steadfast our God is. And because of God’s faithfulness we can come to Him in prayer!

Let us pray for the world and HK:
  • Pray for missionaries in different countries. May God protect them and use them.
  • Pray for governments and those in authority to govern in wisdom in these unsettling times. Different countries are facing different challenges, may God have mercy.
  • Pray for brothers and sisters studying and working abroad.
Let us pray for the English Ministry:
  • Thankful for the retreat of the English Ministry, encouraging brothers and sisters to cast their worries to the Lord and grow in faith. May all continue this practice to be attentive to God’s presence in life.
  • May the upcoming course “God loves you but what is Love” be a blessing to our congregation.
  • In celebrating 120th anniversary of HKBC, we have plans to share about the church’s history in the services. May our congregation be encouraged hearing how God has worked in the history of church.
  • Approaching Good Friday and Easter, may we learn to remember Jesus’ suffering and live a resurrection life. On Friday 2 April we will have a Good Friday Service, pray for the preparation. Also for our Easter Sunday, may we celebrate the Resurrection Power of the Lord joyfully.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)
